The collaboration between Adapta Project and Sezio is a reminder that art and culture exist in both cities, and if we both reached out and worked together more often, the whole megalopolis would be a lot more interesting. The border, in Adapta and Sezio’s opinion, is one of the most interesting things about this area.

Since 2007, we’ve shown in downtown warehouses, a metal-fabrication workshop, The San Diego Children’s Museum, a hallway in CECUT (the Tijuana museum of art), a mansion outside of Playas de Tijuana and a small gallery in North Park.In short, we take over spaces for the purpose of showing art. We were sick of sitting around complaining about the Tijuana/San Diego art scene, so we did something about it: We started producing the quality shows we wanted to see. One show led to another and now there doesn’t seem to be a foreseeable end in sight. The duo is Kinsee Morlan and Jorge Tellaeche. Kinsee is the arts and culture editor for San Diego CityBeat, an alt weekly, and Jorge is a fulltime painter and graphic designer. Both reside in Tijuana, but often leap back and forth between San Diego and TJ.

Robert L. Nelson was in the military for a long time. He drew a lot in his off time, but didn’t start getting serious about his work until recently. Nelson’s only shown his art a few times but has already been snatched up by the smart folks over at Noel-Baza Fine Art.Nelson’s studio is nothing fancy. His son just left the house, so the artist took over the room, installed some shelves and a drawing table and now works away dilegently with his materials of choice: graphite and paper. We’d explain Nelson’s work to you, but he himself does a much better job:ARTIST STATEMENTIt comes down to ones world view. Some are lucky enough to develop a world view through acquisition of unbiased knowledge, but the world view of many is preordained by culture, or manipulated by institutions. The world today is striking in its defined sides of good and evil. How can there be such distinct good and evil in the world while everyone in their heart is on the side of good and clearly sees the side of evil. I try to explore both sides or sometimes the duality in both sides. Good and evil. Innocent and corrupt. So, while I do feel to be on one side of things, I see a value in trying to understand or maybe express bafflement at the other side of things. While at first glance my work might seem to be random juxtaposition or absurdity for absurdities sake, I see it as making some kind of sense, if not logically, then at a gut level that might not always be explainable. I hope my work can succeed in multiple ways. I strive for an image that works on an immediate level but that also can be appreciated in a deeper way. I like to work with ideas and themes but not necessarily specific meaning. Meaning comes from the image. Hopefully viewers will find some meaning in an image that is personal to themselves.Children’s toys are usually seen as possessing innocence. It intrigues me that a toy can, at once, be innocent and menacing. The Kewpie doll recurs in different ways. It becomes a vessel for different ideas. It can be innocence menaced by other forces, the menace itself or sometimes both.My images are to some degree disturbing because I am disturbed by the world, but that doesn’t mean one cannot still be amused.BIOBorn: 1954 FloridaSanta Monica College: 1972-1975 Major; fine artUS Navy: 1975-1995Platt College: 1995-1996 Multimedia and DesignGraphic Designer/Art Director: 1997-PresentSHOWINGSPerry L.

From 6 to 10 p.m. Friday, Oct. 10, Adapta Project is teaming up with the good people who designed the beautiful, modern-meets-organic space where our current show is hanging. Bells & Whistles, a San Diego-based design-and-build firm, have made The Loft, the new art-and-performance space in UCSD’s expanded Price Center, a comfortable, inspiring venue where students can just mingle or see cutting-edge art, music and performance.

The Marking Territory show looks great hanging on the green walls of The Loft. We invite any and all art and design appreciators and buyers to join us for the opening. If, like us, you get lost every time you go to UCSD, follow these simple directions:

From Interstate 5:

Take the La Jolla Village Drive exit and take a left onto La Jolla Village Drive.

Immediately get to your right and, at the first stop light, take a right on Villa Ja Jolla Drive.

When you get to the light at Gilman Drive, head straight into the parking structure. Bring lots of quarters for the meters.

Park, then exit the parking structure and follow Gilman Drive heading west.

Take a right on Myers and head north and you’ll see the Price Center and The Loft.

Our artists’ works are a visual trip around and through lines, either real or drawn in the sand.

Robert Nelson’s work, for example, looks at the duality between good and evil, innocence and corruption. His striking images may haunt some while others will simply chuckle. Children’s toys are a reoccurring image in Nelson’s work and it will make you question which side of the good/evil line you stand, or whether there’s a clear line between the two at all.

“Children’s toys are usually seen as possessing innocence,” says Nelson, “It intrigues me that a toy can, at once, be innocent and menacing.”

Toy guns and teddy bears look cute from afar, but get up-close and you’ll see something more. While using childhood as a starting point and inspiration, Darby manages to deal with the very adult subjects of sex and war in some of his work.

And in Inkstain’s chaotic yet balanced and beautiful collages, we’re asked to step outside of ourselves to see the world around us. Ryan Tannascoli’s series of storyboard-like paintings, too, remind us that we can’t spend our entire lives playing with toy trains. We need to step out and jump on the real trains rushing all around us.

Since 2007, we’ve shown in downtown warehouses, a metal-fabrication workshop, The San Diego Children’s Museum, a hallway in CECUT (the Tijuana museum of art), a mansion outside of Playas de Tijuana and a small gallery in North Park. In short, we take over spaces for the purpose of showing art. We were sick of sitting around complaining about the Tijuana/San Diego art scene, so we did something about it: We started producing the quality shows we wanted to see. One show led to another and now there doesn’t seem to be a foreseeable end in sight. Visit www.adaptaproject.com for updated info, or call 619-436-9034 if you want to support the arts by actually buying art.

We paired Michael James Armstrong with Sugardale and look at what these two perfectionists came up with:

We paired Grammatique with Acamonchi and this is what they made:

And we paired Vero Glezqui with Fernanda Uski:
